Would You Play With Your Life?

Time is money: This is a lie you've been told your entire life… I'll explain why.

The other day, I met Francis. He was a young guy, in his early 30s, full of youth and life! I loved to play with his 2-year old daughter Sherry who looked like a beautiful doll.

But when I met Francis again last week, I was shocked and devastated… He has aged so much with many grey hair.. Sherry is now in sophomore year in university. What? How could time fly by so quickly?

You see, my memory of the youthful Francis and Sherry was from my teenage years, in the little town when I grew up.

It's astonishing when you realize the people you saw 10, 20 years back in your memory remain the same. And it's in encounters of people like Francis that I realize that time has really slipped by so quickly….

Now, what's the lie? We've been told Time is money. But it's just not true. Time is life and it's the only thing money can't buy. If Francis had money like Bill Gates, he still could not buy those 20 years back. So why do we equal time to money when no money on this earth could buy time?

Time is the only thing working against you. The moment you understand that truly, the earlier you start getting really intentional about how you are moving from one year to the other.

The illusion of time still fascinates me. In the present, time seems to be slow. I imagine you are impatient right now for the Christmas season to come so you may go on vacation or at least get a break from work. However, in 10, 20 years from now, you'll look back and you'll wonder, like Francis…, how did time just slip by? How have your little kids just become adults who you can't give orders to anymore?

My recommendation for you, you want to be serious with your time, because time is life; and whenever you play with your time, you are playing with your life.

I know you won't let that happen and you will be very intentional, starting from today, about how you spend your time, both at work and at home.
