Do you know the mantra I live by? Live your dreams, don't chase them! If not, they may fly away!
Like me, I imagine you have some dreams that you hold close to your heart
One of my dreams is to retire in 10 years and travel the world. Maybe you've told yourself after 10 years of working, I'll become financially comfortable, I will enjoy more time with family. I'll sleep more, go more to the spa. If you're more ambitious, you want to become a seasoned executive and be very rich. Today, I'll share with you a precious formula.
Do you know what's the problem with the dreams above? They are conjugated in the future tense. Meaning it's an endless pursuit that always remains in the future and never arrive in present life.
My timeless formula to achieving any dream I want has been to start living that dream right NOW! If you don't make time to enjoy family today, you won't be able to when you become an executive Director. Plain and simple.
To start, you need to start framing your dreams in the present tense and affirm them as if those were already happening right now in your life.
You know what that does? When you frame it and say it in present tense, It sends messages to your brain every single day and at each moment to make you see life and opportunities through the lenses of someone who is already very rich, enjoys time with family, is a senior Executive, etc. And that's how your dream really comes through because you are suddenly living your dream…
As I write to you, I just returned from a 3-week family vacation in Abidjan. That's how I live my dream of traveling the world and enjoying time with family and myself. I can't chase my dreams. I live them.
In practice, this is how you should go about it.
1. Decide 1 big dream you have right now and write it down in big capital letters on a LARGE piece of paper, in the present tense.
2. Paste it somewhere in your room where you can see it prominently.
3. Read it aloud every morning when you wake up and every evening before bedtime.
Does this give you some perspective? Now, the big first step. What is that dream do you want to achieve and how do you define it in achievable ways?
PS: In our Women Leader Workshops, we delve into this topic at length and get to define your dreams in a way that is clearly achievable. Stay tuned for our next workshop.
