You feel overwhelmed by everything life is throwing at you sometimes…
You wonder, is it normal? Are these going to pass? …
Certainly yes, but how soon or how long will you keep enduring this?
A few mothers in the community have asked me “Is it normal to be overwhelmed? And all the time” The truth is when you are overwhelmed, personal care has probably taken the back seat.
Practice these habits to stay afloat, despite everything going on.
1. FOCUS. Focusing is a skill that successful people have in common.
I want to share with you today my 2 time-tested formula to stay focused:
Time-tested formula 1: Start your days on the right tone with meditation, gratitude and intention setting. Start with this. It’s the best short meditation practice I’ve found to date.
Remove distractions. The biggest one is your phone and the digital world which is overwhelming your brain, your mind, and your life without you noticing. I share here how to control your phone instead of letting it control you here.
2. PAUSE TO RESET AND CHANGE COURSE. The best way to get off the treadmill to nowhere is to first pause the treadmill…
If you don’t press pause, you will never get off, or you may die trying to jump off it when it’s in full speed.
Arrange for time alone away from work and from family. Use this time to rest and recharge; then reflect on your life, your priorities, and the changes you can make to your current routine.
I often get 3 questions when I share this tip with my coaching clients: how long do I need this personal retreat to last? Can I really leave everyone at home without causing chaos? What should I do on that personal retreat to get the best results?
To your first question: How many days should you seek even though it seems like you have no room to create such time right now? I recommend 3 days minimum, and this can go all the way to a month! When as a Country Director I once felt overwhelmed with a lot going on in my life (and it was really A LOT!)…
I got my supervisor agree to allow me to take 1 month off to get better on my mental health. Full story for another day.
It worked! Out of the 1 month, I spent 2 weeks on a personal retreat in a calm village by the beach in Senegal. It has been my best vacation to date! The other 2 weeks, I spent it with my family and we were all so happy
.
To the last 2 questions, I risk getting long… the next tip below will help you get clarity I’m sure.
3. HAVE A LIFELINE. Let’s tell ourselves the truth. When you are overwhelmed, you can’t just think straight to yourself…
It’s like asking a mad person to heal themselves. Is that ever possible? Does the mad people know they are even mad? For them they are just normal.
This is when you need a coach. A coach is like the Doctor, they help you diagnose the underlying issues of what is keeping you overwhelmed and then help you structure that personal retreat and commit to new practices that will help you get to your higher self and your more ideal life.
Lucia, my first professional coach made a huge difference in my life and I will be forever grateful to her. If you don’t have a professional life coach yet, you need to get one.
I take a limited number a coaching clients who I can walk together with for 3-6 months and transform their life. I don’t accept everyone, we’ll need to check if you are eligible first. You can message me on WhatsApp if you think you need coaching right now.
4. DELEGATE & SHARE RESPONSIBILITIES. If you feel overwhelmed, it means you are not are not delegating (at home and at work)…
And you are doing other people’s job (not physically but also mentally). Trying to solve problems that others should be thinking about instead of you and doing; not letting your partner do their part or involving them responsibly if they are not paying attention. I will share more about life tasks in our next conversation.
That’s what I have on my heart and want to let it out to you today.
